During the past three weeks, the customs officers found 13 migrants without identification documents and prevented several attempts for smuggling various goods, temporarily seizing airsoft guns, suppressors, optical targets and ammunition, fish and fishing nets, a second-hand motorcycle engine, spare automobile parts, cigarettes, dietary supplements, jewelry and counterfeits.

The following goods were seized:

Weapons

- 4  airsoft guns, 2 airsoft suppressors and 3 airsoft gun spherical projectiles, found during control of a Macedonian registered passenger motor vehicle, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing Tabanovce Motorway. The undeclared  weapons and ammunition were found in a box placed on the back seat, in the spare tire area in the boot of the vehicle and under the floor mats. The goods were seized, and an appropriate procedure was initiated against the driver.

- 2 Gammo and Sportsman air guns, 2 Gamani optical scopes and 4,200 pieces of Premier spherical projectiles, detected during control of goods originating in the United States of America, intended for a Macedonian citizen, declared for import customs clearance at the Customs Office Struga. The products, which were not covered by the customs declaration, have been seized, and an appropriate procedure will be initiated against the importer

Cigarettes

- 55 cartons of cigarettes with Macedonian excise stamps, found in two separate cases at the International Airport Skopje, during control of the checked baggage of two Macedonian citizens, declared for exit from the country.

In the first case, in the luggage of a passenger who intended to fly to London, the customs officers found 30 cartons of Monte Carlo cigarettes, and in the second case, 25 cartons of Pall Mall and Camel cigarettes were found in the luggage of a passenger who intended to fly to Gothenburg. In both cases, the cigarettes were seized and misdemeanor procedures will be initiated against the perpetrators. 

Fish and fishing nets

- 30.6 kg of Ohrid trout and 10 fishing nets 100 meters long, found during control of a passenger motor vehicle with Albanian license plates, driven by an Albanian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Kjafasan. The undeclared fish and fishing nets were found under the floor mats. They were seized, and an appropriate procedure was initiated against the driver.

Food supplements and frape mixtures

- 25 packages of medicines and food supplements, detected during control of a Macedonian registered car, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Novo Selo. The undeclared goods, found in the boot of the vehicle, were seized, and an appropriate procedure will be initiated against the owner, a Macedonian citizen passenger on the vehicle.

- 300 bags of 250 mg frappe mixture detected by a Mobile Customs Team during control of a Macedonian car, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Novo Selo. The undeclared goods, found in 3 cardboard boxes placed in the boot of the vehicle, were seized, and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure was filed against the driver.

Second-hand motorcycle engine and automobile spare parts

- 1 Second-hand SUZUKI GSX-R motorcycle engine, detected by a Customs Mobile Team, during inspection of a Macedonian registered van driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The undeclared engine was placed in a cardboard box and it was seized. A request for initiation of misdemeanor procedure was filed against the driver.

- 9 automobile spare parts (intercooler, cooler, headlights, air filter box, front grille, bumper stand and plastic wing), detected by a Customs Mobile Team, during inspection of a Bulgarian truck, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The undeclared goods, found in the driver’s cab under the co-driver's seat, under the bed and in the drawers behind the co-driver's seat, were seized, and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure will be filed against the driver.

Other goods

- 750 pieces of concrete anchors and 100 aluminum fence rosettes, found by a Customs Mobile Team, during a control of a Macedonian registered passenger motor vehicle, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Jazince. The undeclared goods were found near the front and back seats of the vehicle, covered with floor mats. The goods were seized and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure was filed against the driver.

- Jewellery (88 bracelets, 50 necklaces, 122 pierces and 19 pairs of earrings) and 28 watches, detected by a Customs Mobile Team, during control of a passenger motor vehicle with Kosovo license plates, driven by a Kosovo citizen, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Deve Bair. The undeclared goods were found in 3 plastic bags placed on the floor behind the co-driver's seat and covered with a jacket. They were seized and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure was filed against the driver. For the 22 watches, bearing marks of famous trademarks, a procedure was initiated for determining their authenticity.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 409 silicone cases for mobile phones and 7 ties bearing logo of protected trademarks, detected in two separate cases at the Customs Office Airport Skopje - Section for customs clearance of goods.

In the first case, during control of a shipment from China for a company from Skopje, the customs officers found 409 silicone cases for mobile phones were discovered, while in the second case, during control of a shipment from Singapore, intended for a person from Skopje, the customs officers found 7 ties.

Due to suspicion that the products infringe intellectual property rights, they were temporarily seized, and procedures have been initiated to verify their authenticity.

Migrants

The Mobile customs teams found 13 migrants without identification documents. On 31st May 2018, at about 22:00 hours, on the Skopje-Kumanovo highway, the customs officers noticed a passenger motor vehicle with Macedonian license plates, parked on the right driving lane with people coming out of the vehicle. The driver – a Macedonian citizen said that he was transporting the persons from Gevgelija and was supposed to take them to the village of Lopate, Kumanovo, but that he ran out of fuel and parked and waited for fuel to be delivered by people who travelled before him as advance guards. According to their statement, the migrants were from Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The persons and the passenger motor vehicle were handed over to the Ministry of Interior.
